When the water to be treated enters the unit, a special patented system begins to operate. Firstly, the flow of water causes a small magnet to move which switches on the SilverSafe power pack. The Light Emitting Diode (LED) on the side of the unit glows alternately green and red indicating that the unit is working correctly and that the batteries are fine.
The LED confirms the power pack's ability to supply sufficient current to operate the electrical cathode-anode system. As long as the LED glows, the unit is introducing silver ions at a controlled rate (less than the allowable level approved by the NHMRC (Australia) and EPA(USA)) into the water.
It is these ions that keep your unit free of disease carrying bacteria - when the unit is properly installed and maintained as directed.
If only one filter is used it may be one or the other depending on the quality of the water. For treated town-water with chlorine, use an activated-carbon filter, for non-treated rain, tank, river or bore (ground) water, a ceramic filter would be more suitable.
For treated town-water with chlorine it is possibe to use a single filter which is a combined ceramic and activated-carbon filter.
In some cases (e.g., the Whole-of House Unit), a second SilverSafe Power Pack may be installed. This is to replenish the level of silver ions in the water following an activated-carbon filter. This is important where water may lie stagnant for a while in pipes before it is consumed.
Homepure's unique and patented controlled system of dispensing silver ions ensures that the filters remain free of bacteria-buildup - the ghastly green slime you see on old filters with other brands.
The filtered water remains protected by residual silver ions at much less than the allowable level, 0.1 mg/litre, approved by the NHMRC (Australia) and EPA(USA).
